Packing our chef and barista, for the road trip

Off on another road trip. This time to Metung in East Gippsland, about 300 km away from home.

We picked up our passengers, Tim and Krissy, at Alkira, in Emerald, and made use of the large luggage space of our Model Y. Bringing along our own chef and barista is a little indulgent, I agree. But their professional standards apparently necessitated them packing their own cooking and caffeinating equipment.

One onlooker came over to assist with our “engine trouble” because I had the frunk open to pack more in.

Somewhere in the packing, I had a small win: I finally spotted that Tesla had moved our camp-fridge power switch into the phone app — so I can keep the fridge cold, and Sentry Mode watching, without walking back to the car. I've since written it up in full.

Archie, our cat, supervised the morning packing. We grabbed what has become our ritual road trip brekky, at Over the Road cafe in Emerald.

Charging

I plugged in the car yesterday, at home, and told the Amber Electric app I’d like it to have 100% charge by the time we were due to leave, at the minimum cost. More than enough for the 300+ km trip. Then we’ll plug in at our destination. No stops to “refuel”.

      2. Paula Fernandes No platform and mattress on this trip. It won’t fit all four of us 😉. B&B this time.

What window shades are you using?

    1. Leonie Campbell I bought a whole set, but haven’t used them. The only thing we use is the front windscreen shade, on hot summer days when parking in direct sun. Even on hot days, the sun through the roof glass is fine for us, since the car’s motion cools it down. It only gets hot while parked.

I will probably use some of our side window shades when camping, but in previous camps I haven’t needed them.

Tesla Tripping so you just sleep in the car with no shades so people can see in when your sleeping?

      2. Leonie Campbell I have the front windscreen shade in place. The passenger windows, next to my head while sleeping, are tinted. So, unless I am parked right up against someone else, it’s difficult to see in.
